CEO Builds Ally Typal to Play Exlusively in June
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Technology Information Consultants CEO John Rogers has revealed that he is preparing an ally typal deck in preparation for next June. The deck is an important part of Rogers’ branding strategy as both a representative of his company and a Magic player.
“Last June, we hired an outside organization to do a company-wide evaluation of our policies,” Rogers shared. “That ended up being costly, and all we got was a report we decided not to make public, for complex internal reasons. This year, I’ve taken it upon myself to turn my passion for Magic: the Gathering into the company’s annual stand for gay rights.”
“Allyship is very important to me for exactly 30 days a year,” Rogers told us. “I wanted a commander deck to reflect that. The kind of deck where I can say the word ally often enough that it loses all meaning but becomes subconsciously associated with me. That’s how people will know that both me and the company are good, no matter what we do the rest of the year.”
While he’s leaving his options open, Rogers is leaning towards Sokka, Tenacious Tactician to helm the deck. “I really like Sokka as a commander for my ally deck because he reminds me of myself. His personality in the first season really resonates with me, plus we’ve both tripped balls in the desert before. It’s also important to me that he’s a straight male ally. I think straight guys like me get overlooked a lot during Pride Month and, honestly, it’s a little hurtful.”
“I did consider Suki, Kyoshi Warrior but I decided against it,” Rogers added. “A chick warrior is just a little too butch if you ask me. But I want it noted that I almost had a female commander. I may even include some female cards in the deck. But that’s really a conversation for March.”
“People keep asking if I’m going to include cards like Tomik, Distinguished Advokist or Chandra, Torch of Defiance, but I don’t think that’s necessary,” the CEO informed us when we asked if his deck would include any canonical queer characters. “My deck is really focused on the ‘A’ part of the LGBTQIA+ community. ‘A’ stands for ally, as I’m sure everyone knows.”
When asked for a potential decklist, Rogers stated that the deck is a work in progress and he’d prefer to wait until June 1st to reveal. “That’s called synergy,” he shared. “I’m a strong believer in maximizing the impact of my basic human empathy. Why would I show support for a community at a time when it’s not part of a wider messaging campaign? That would be a total waste of perfectly good allyship.”
The ally deck is part of a larger effort by Rogers to synchronize his deck-building with corporate outreach strategies. He plans to unveil a Yawgmoth, Thran Physician deck next February, despite multiple members of his PR team asking him not to. Until then, he will continue playing his Magda, Brazen Outlaw cEDH deck in bracket two pods.
