Magic Player Who Can’t Afford MagicCon Trip Just Organizes His Lands

Toledo, OH – Local Magic: The Gathering fan Craig Duffy, upset over not having enough funds to travel to Atlanta for this past weekend’s MagicCon, spent the day reorganizing lands in an attempt to quell his wanderlust.

Duffy, who was recently laid off from his management position at Jimmy John’s for stealing an entire package of bacon and getting caught on camera, is trying to make the best out of a bad situation.

“Yeah I didn’t have cash or gas to get to Atlanta,” explained Duffy while sifting through his Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty full-art lands, “and I don’t think I’m gonna do any traveling at all this year; money’s just gotten tight now that I have to pay for all my own deli meats. Luckily I have my lands to look at, and I can admire places that could be in Atlanta. Like, I’d love to visit a rain-soaked alleyway like in that Japanese NEO Swamp. I don’t get out much but I’m imagining a place like that has gotta be in Atlanta.

“Someplace where some seedy dealings are happening, like a guy trading a Misty Rainforest for an eight-ball of coke or something. Besides, what can I get out of a trip to an exotic destination like Georgia that I can’t get in a stack of lands? I get to see pretty sights, like the floating bowl lakes in those full-art Zendikar Islands, or the city landmarks in the Streets of New Capenna triomes, and I don’t have to walk anywhere or get tired!”

Wizards of the Coast has heard of players like Duffy, unable to travel for the game they love, and released a Secret Lair of cheap lands this past week to compensate.

“We know many cannot get out to MagicCon: Atlanta this year and we wanted to help out those players,” WOTC spokesperson Trent Darby advertised in an e-mail earlier in the week. “So we are offering the Flower Power bundle of lands that will let your mind wander even if you physically can’t! These full-art basics will be sold for $1 after we realized this is how we should’ve been selling the land bundles this whole time. With the Flower Power Secret Lair we can show appreciation for the people who don’t have much money, but want to give some to a massive company like us!”

At press time, the $1 Flower Power Secret Lair lands sold out in less than an hour, and are already available on the secondary market for $3.
