Commander Group Concerned About Player Skipping Every “May” Ability

Erie, PA – A Commander play group at a local game store collectively worried about a fourth in their group who spent a recent match skipping every “may” ability in card rules text.

The player, Chase Locuer, seemed distant and “out of it”, according to the other players in his group who saw a change in the usually talkative and happy Magic: The Gathering player.

“Yeah his behavior was kinda concerning,” said Lydia Treach, a player in the pod with and friend of Locuer. “I’ve played against Chase for years and never seen him like this. Normally he plays kinda group-huggy decks that force him to be political with other players, and he’d be joking around and making deals. But this past game he was just so quiet, kept his face buried in his phone when it wasn’t his turn, and skipped every ‘may’ ability that came his way. Heck I even told him he missed a bunch of triggers and just shrugged it off. I hope everything’s ok with him.”

Treach wasn’t the only one perturbed by the sudden change in Locuer’s personality.

“It’s like he was a different dude,” claimed another group member Greg Colicianno. “I mean, we don’t know much about him outside of Magic. I think he has a job in an office, and might be married with a kid, but all we really talk about is nerd stuff for a few hours a week. Maybe he lost his job, or his wife doesn’t want him to play Magic anymore, but whatever is going on he won’t let us know. I had Rhystic Study out, and literally every time I asked if he’d pay the one he just sighed and said no. What’s wrong with the guy?”

Eventually we were able to speak to Locuer and he told us that there was no cause for concern. “Oh yeah I’m fine,” Locuer jovially responded when asked about his well-being. “I’m just trying to scroll through all the new Avatar: The Last Airbender cards; it’s so hard keeping up with all these spoilers I can barely pay attention to anything else.”
