Spider-Man Comic Fans Annoyed That No One Makes Tiny Boards to Go Inside Card Sleeves
As Universes Beyond continues introduce Magic: The Gathering to other pop culture fandoms, the release of Magic: The Gathering® | Marvel’s Spider-Man has also introduced new frustrations for the fans of Spider-Man comics.
“They make the tiny bags but no tiny boards, how is this possible?” asked Vince Ramirez, a new Magic player who just had just cracked a Marvel Universe variant Heroic Intervention. He continued, “It’s bad enough these little bags don’t have flaps, but if you store this without an acid free board it will be FN/VF at best in 20 years!”
Other players, not willing to take the risk, attempted to create their own makeshift board by squeezing extra tokens and basic lands into the sleeves behind their Spider-Man cards. “Learned this little trick back in 1995!” explained Mike Ybarra. “It’s just like the time I picked up all 13 variant Gen 13 covers from my pull list, and the shop tried to charge me 25 cents for bags and boards, so I had to shove all 13 comics into a Wizard magazine bag until I could get home and secure them. Never did get around to reading that one,” he continued, as the sleeve protecting his new Norman Osborn card began to split at the seams.
As more Marvel-based Universes Beyond sets begin to dominate the release schedule, other comic fans began to wonder if accessory manufacturers would have time to catch up with the comic book industry. Avid comic book reader Vince Sanchez said, “I see these Magic players double and triple bagging their cards, and that’s just not going to cut it.” Sanchez went on to explain, “I’ve been selling all my 90s comics for as much as 10% above cover price. Good luck getting that kind of ROI without boards!”
As of press time, no accessory manufactures we reached out to were available for comment.
