New Alchemy Card Doxes Opponent

Redmon, WA - Wizards of the Coast recently spoiled a new batch of Bloomburrow Alchemy cards for Magic: The Gathering Arena, and a new legendary creature can give you personal information about your opponents.

In an email to Arena players, Wizards spoiled Trummy, Fish Phisher, Bloomburrow's only legendary Human creature with an ability unique to the digital version of the popular card game.

"Here comes a devious new legendary creature with a surprising ability," said the email spoiling the card. "Scourge of ponds and streams everywhere, we're introducing Trummy, Fish Phisher. Trummy is a 2/3 for who says 'Whenever Trummy enters the battlefield or attacks, you may gift an opponent a tapped Fish token. If you do, reveal the numbers in that opponent's Social Security number and draw a card.' Showcasing the possibilities of Alchemy cards, Trummy is the first non-acorn card that can ruin someone's life in the real world."

Alchemy has been a space for Wizards to experiment with digital-only mechanics before, but they've never used a card mechanic to influence things outside of the game. The message went on to say that the unusual card and mechanic wouldn't be possible without a recent data leak.

"For a little background information on this card, it would not have been possible to make Trummy prior to the recent National Public Data information breach. Through methods we cannot reveal, we already had most Arena players' personal information, but we decided to do something special now that we have all of it. Seeing a chance to turn that leak into a fountain of inspiration, we at Wizards decided to capitalize on it for our card game. We're confident that Trummy can unlock a new area of potential in Magic cards and data collection."

As of press time, Mark Rosewater said in a worrying Blogatog post that, like recent Alchemy "reprints" in Mystery Booster 2, Trummy could be printed in paper one day.
