Local Man Unsure if He’s Been Invited To Play Party Game Coup or Stage Coup of US Government
After receiving a vague text from his friend a local man is unsure if he’s agreed to play the party game Coup or if he’s agreed to aid in a plan to overthrow the United States Government. Daniel Inada enthusiastically answered his friend Korrina Pocock’s text about weekend plans, before realizing he wasn’t completely sure what he’d agreed to. He told us that he’s concerned it could result in an embarrassing mix-up.
The Ambiguous Text
The simple text message sent by Pocock reads, “Coup this weekend?” Inada, who immediately assumed this was a simple invitation to play the social deduction card game immediately responded, “Absolutely! Can’t wait!” Several hours passed before it occurred to Inada that his friend might now expect him to aid in a violent revolution against the current political regime.
“It could really go either way with Korrina,” Inada told us. “Like one time she asked if I wanted to see Anthrax. I thought we were going to a concert, but instead she just showed me a vile with some powder in it. Another time I thought we were going to break our friend Jeff out of prison, but Korrina just wanted someone to binge watch Prison Break with her.”
Unclear Expectations
Inada clarified, “I’m excited about it either way, I just want to know how I should dress and stuff. I mean, if I show up for game night wearing a balaclava I’m going to look like a real tool. On the other hand, if we’re going to be storming government buildings I don’t want to be wearing sandals, you know.”
“It’s not just the clothes either,” he stated. “There’s a lot of different expectations depending on which kind of Coup we’re doing. Do I bring my famous seven layer dip or my duffle bag full of guns without serial numbers? Not to mention, I’m the playlist guy and a chill card game night has a totally different vibe than an insurrection. But it’s just so awkward to ask for clarification after you’ve already agreed to a possible felony”
Plans Remain Unclear
When our team followed up with Pocock her answers failed to clarify the weekend plans. “It’s going to be a great time,” she told us. “Lots of deception and cloak and dagger planning. Maybe even an assasination or two if things go well. Plus I can’t wait for everyone to meet the new arms dealer and anarchist.”
Pocock told us this in her windowless basement. The presence of a gaming table and bookshelf filled with board games, including every expansion of Coup seemed to imply that her plans were for a game night. However, she also had the blueprints for numerous government buildings tacked to a quark board. Even after extensive questioning and a very confusing game of Hegemony: Lead Your Class to Victory we weren’t able to confirm Pocock’s intentions.
Preparing for Either Option
As of this printing Inada had given up on trying to figure out if his weekend plans would involve an act of treason. Instead he has opted for a compromise, wearing dark but casual clothes and comfortable footwear that wouldn’t hamper him in a foot chase. He was last seen picking up a six pack of beer, an appropriate gift for either activity.
