WotC Delays Edge of Eternities, Swears it'll be Twice as Good Later

Renton, WA - With the release date for Magic: the Gathering's upcoming space themed set, Edge of Eternities, edging ever closer, excitement is building for MtG fans around the world. But, before we get the long-awaited release of this new, core IP set, Commander's Herald has some unfortunate news, Wizards of the Cost has decided to delay the release of Edge of Eternities.
This reporter had the opportunity to speak with Ffej Netrig, Head of Public Relations at WotC about the delay:
Choosing to delay the launch of Edge of Eternities had to be difficult, what's behind this decision?
A lot of things, but ultimately there was one factor that pushed us over the edge: we think it'll be twice as good later.
Meaning you're redesigning some cards?
No, we're not changing anything about the set.
So you're going to do some additional marketing? Event support? What's changing?
We'll certainly be releasing more teasers for players. We've found the more touchpoints we have with the playerbase, the better they feel about our products at launch.
So you're just delaying it...
Exactly. We want the release to feel amazing when it finally arrives, and our market research has shown that the longer we delay the release of a product, the better our playerbase feels about it when it final arrives. We want to take them right up to the edge, when it feels unbearable, and then release the set.
That can't be good for your retail partners or supply chain though, right?
Not at all. We're paying insane fees to drop ship product on short notice, and our printers absolutely hate us. But in our new market strategy, the player always comes first. The rest of them can put up with a bit of inconvenience and we'll be on hand to help clean up the mess.
Does this affect your fiscal year at all?
It shouldn't. We're pushing the release of Edge of Eternities right up against the edge of the new fiscal year, but honestly our shareholders are super excited about that. When we release our most recent quarterly fiscal statements, they went wild for it. I've never seen a group of people so excited about the delay of a product launch. It was kind of freaky...
What about the design team though? Surely this affects the schedule of future set releases too?
It does, but who cares about the product team. They'll finish when we tell them to.
