Stranger Things to End With Everyone Dying in Pit Trap Before Final Battle As Homage to ’80s D&D
The final season of the hit Netflix show Stranger Things is set to release in November, but a new leak has spoiled the show’s shocking finale. In one of the show’s signature nods to old-school Dungeons & Dragons, the protagonists will reportedly all die horribly at the bottom of a big hole. This total party wipe will happen in the dungeon of Vecna, just before the much-anticipated final confrontation.
Leaked Details
According to the anonymous leaker, the last season of Stranger Things will build up to a final battle with the show’s big bad, only to end moments before the big fight. “After fighting a bunch of monsters and killing something called a beholder, the floor in a hallway just opens up and they all fall in. That’s it. That’s the ending. They all just break their necks or spines or whatever and die.”
“It’s unfair to the girl who plays Robin in particular,” they continued. “Her very famous and talented parents deserve better. Especially her award-winning mother. Wouldn’t it be great if Netflix made them change it? Instead of dying, Robin could give a big speech about gay rights that wins Maya Hawke an Emmy. Also, maybe her universally beloved actress mom gets one too for manipulating Netflix into changing the ending. Just an idea from an outside observer who definitely wasn’t in Pulp Fiction.”
The Duffer Brothers Explain Their Decision
“It’s a shame that the ending was spoiled,” Duffer Brother #1 said in response to the leak. “It was meant to imitate the shocking twist you usually only get with old school D&D, where the story just suddenly ends because no one spotted a random trap. We even had a clever line where Mike says ‘Boy, I wish we had a 10-foot pole like from Dungeons and Dragons’ right before the trap kills everyone.”
Duffer Brother #2 added, “Of course, what people need to understand about the ending is that the pit trap kills everyone halfway through the episode. The last twenty or so minutes are footage of us telling the audience how cool the fight with Vecna would have been if everyone wasn’t dead. Like, we had so many cool ideas, but no one will ever get to see them because everyone failed their saving throws. That lack of satisfaction is the emotional core of our finale.”
A Testament to the Show’s 80s Influences
The old school D&D party wipe is just one way the Stranger Things finale pays homage to its 1980s setting. As usual, the show will prominently feature needle drop moments from the era. It’s been revealed that, as fan favorite Steve Harrington slowly dies of internal bleeding at the bottom of the 50-foot pit, “The One I Love” by R.E.M. will be playing.
“We chose that song as a metaphor for the show happening in the 80s,” Duffer Brother #3 shared. “It’s from a pretty obscure band called Rem. You’ve probably never heard of them, but they’re going to be huge on TikTok after this season. Trust me, by January, kids will be throwing themselves down wells and canyons to the song and calling it The Pit Trap Challenge.”
“If you think about it, having all these young characters die is also a nod to the 80s,” Duffer Brother #4 chimed in. “Only old people know this, but in 80s movies, kids were always getting into dangerous situations. That was back before constant school shootings made the idea lose its novelty.”
The leak may have spoiled the ending, but there are still plenty of unanswered questions to keep fans excited. How many cigarettes will Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper smoke? Which 80s horror icon will get a two-minute cameo? Will the pit trap have spikes at the bottom? Tune in to your ex’s Netflix account to find out on November 26th.
