Secret Lair Chaos Vault Releases "The Fairest Drop Of All"

Josh Nelson • December 9, 2024

A few days ago, Wizards of the Coast slyly revealed the "Chaos Vault", a new initiative within Secret Lair. There is so little information for this initiative. So, naturally, it came as a shock to see that the first Chaos Vault drop is already out! On Monday, December 9th, "The Fairest Drop of All" became available on the Secret Lair webstore.

What we know about this subset of Magic's long-standing drop series is extremely limited for now. What little we do know is based on "The Fairest Drop of All", the one Chaos Vault drop that has come out so far. The key differences that make the Chaos Vault distinctive from other Secret Lair drops may include the following:

  • This drop was not announced ahead of time, but rather, came out completely unbeknownst to many.
  • This drop has a price tag of $24.99 in foil, which is $15 less than normal foil Secret Lair drops.
  • "The Fairest Drop of All" came out exclusively in a foil version.

There is no indication that the Chaos Vault drop series will print to demand or if there's a limited print run. We also don't know if this new initiative is a one-week or even one-day type of release, like the older SL release model. If you're looking to purchase this Chaos Vault drop, these are things you'll want to consider.

As for this first drop itself, "The Fairest Drop of All" is done in a fantasy novel cover style. It contains the following four cards:

Notably, Steely Resolve appears here in its first reprint ever. In nonfoil it is just under $18, according to MTGStocks, but in foil it is mere pennies under $50! While the other cards add approximately $7.50 to the overall value of this Secret Lair  drop, the decidedly load-bearing Steely Resolve makes this drop more than lucrative for its price, even including shipping and sales tax.

Tuvasa the Sunlit, the last of four double-sided cards from the first Chaos Vault drop, called "The Fairest Drop of All".

If you are hoping to purchase "The Fairest Drop of All", as mentioned above, we don't know how long it will be in the Secret Lair webstore. We also don't know the print run model for this drop. It is selling for $24.99.

But let's hear from you. Do you like this refurbished idea of impromptu Secret Lair drops? Will you try to get ahold of this drop or other Chaos Vault drops? Sound off below!
