Innistrad Remastered: A First Look At Spooky New Reprints

Josh Nelson • November 21, 2024

Spooky season has come and gone, but the horrors remain! As such, we here at Commander's Herald want to take a look at Innistrad Remastered, the next expansion set for Magic: The Gathering. It's coming fast, so here's a first brief look at the set!

Innistrad Remastered: What We Know Thus Far

Innistrad Remastered releases on January 24th, 2025, and features cards from among all found within the Innistrad setting. These sets include the following, but may include additional thematic inclusions from other releases:

  • Innistrad
  • Dark Ascension
  • Avacyn Restored
  • Shadows Over Innistrad
  • Eldritch Moon
  • Commander 2017
  • Innistrad: Midnight Hunt
  • Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Commander
  • Innistrad: Crimson Vow
  • Innistrad: Crimson Vow Commander

According to a search of Scryfall's Lore Finder, the following sets may also be eligible for cards to be included here. The following list is based on the way Wizards of the Coast treated Ravnica Remastered just this year:

  • Lorwyn
  • Zendikar
  • Magic 2011
  • Magic 2012
  • Magic 2013
  • Duel Decks: Sorin Vs. Tibalt
  • Magic 2014
  • Magic 2015
  • Khans of Tarkir
  • Magic Origins
  • Amonkhet
  • Hour of Devastation
  • War of the Spark
  • Core Set 2019
  • Core Set 2020
  • Kaldheim
  • Core Set 2021
  • Phyrexia: All Will Be One
  • March of the Machine
  • March of the Machine Commander
  • March of the Machine: Aftermath
  • Modern Horizons 3

Many of the sets in the above list have only one or two cards that fit the eligibility criteria for the set. Most of these cards relate specifically to the key characters of the setting, such as Kaldheim and Phyrexia: All Will Be One both each containing a card relating to Tibalt. Therefore, it is possible that these cards won't be represented within Innistrad Remastered.

Furthermore, as a final note, it seems highly unlikely that we will get the "undead Planeswalkers" of the San Diego Comic-Con promotions of 2016. Those cards' art seem far too novel for Wizards of the Coast to reprint on the requisite planeswalker cards. Sorry, undead fans!

What Else We Know

There are currently two confirmed cards in the set: Deadeye Navigator, a hallmark of Commander from the olden days, and Edgar Markov, a boogeyman of many playgroups. The Remastered sets have also shown an interesting trend in the form of retro frames being a possibility for cards.

This is even true of settings other than Dominaria, as evidenced by Ravnica Remastered and the newly-revealed cards from Innistrad Remastered. Turns out, because people seem to like retro-framed cards, Wizards is more than willing to print more cards with that framing!

Furthermore, Edgar Markov will have four treatments available including his standard frame. These include the Retro Frame, Showcase, and serialized Movie Poster frame with Rainbow Foil:

As manufacturer-suggested retail prices have returned, Wizards posits the following prices for Innistrad Remastered booster pack products:

Innistrad Remastered products will have these MSRPs:

  • Play Booster: $6.99
  • Collector Booster: $29.99
