Dungeons & Dragons: Karlach's Rage Secret Lair Revealed

Josh Nelson • August 16, 2024

Dungeons & Dragons is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of its original release. Wizards of the Coast, the company that develops D&D and Magic: The Gathering, has created five Secret Lair drops for Magic to commemorate this occasion. We have previously covered the first four, and today we will be covering the last of them. Dungeons & Dragons: Karlach's Rage is the name of that fifth drop. It features five reprinted cards themed after Karlach, a major character from Baldur's Gate 3. But what are those cards, and do they carry any value? Read on, and all will be revealed.

The Contents of Dungeons & Dragons: Karlach's Rage

Karlach's Rage contains five cards, all themed after Karlach, the Tiefling barbarian who may serve as one of your companions in Baldur's Gate 3. The cards in this drop are all geared to fit in a mono-red deck, Commander or otherwise. According to Screen Rant, the site that revealed the drop, the cards in Karlach's Rage are as follows:

Do The Cards Have Any Value?

Dungeons & Dragons: Karlach's Rage will sell on the Secret Lair webstore for $29.99 in nonfoil and $39.99 in foil. But do the cards stack up to those price points? Well, in simple terms yes! In fact, two of the cards more than make up the price of the nonfoil drop. Karlach, Fury of Avernus is currently going for $11 on the secondary market, while Dolmen Gate currently exceeds $20. While this is about $9 shy of the foil drop, there shouldn't be anything to worry about there, as Stranglehold is a little over $6, and City on Fire is about $5 at the time of writing. Of course, Thrill of Possibility is just happy to be included. Nevertheless, the art for all of these should allow the cards in this drop to retain their value handily regardless of whether older printings tank in value as a result.

Dungeons & Dragons: Karlach's Rage will be hitting the Secret Lair webstore on August 27th and, as mentioned above, will go for a price point of $29.99 in nonfoil or $39.99 in foil. As we continue to stress, Wizards of the Coast has shifted their philosophy for Secret Lair. They have changed the print runs from on-demand to limited-print. Due to the overall popularity of Baldur's Gate 3 and past precedent for the Secret Lair products in the wake of this shift, we anticipate that these will sell out. Therefore, if you are looking to place an order, you'd best prepare and make some time in your schedule to snap them up.

Are you excited for Dungeons & Dragons: Karlach's Rage, or any of the other four drops coming later this month? Are you a fan of D&D? Sound off below!
