"Child's Play" Secret Lair Announced For Next Superdrop

Josh Nelson • September 17, 2024

Hot on the heels of two Secret Lair drops themed after the world-renowned Ghostbusters franchise, Wizards of the Coast has announced a new drop due to release in late September. This one is based on the Child's Play horror movie franchise, featuring the murderous doll known as Chucky.

Magic: The Gathering's new drop, Secret Lair x Chucky, features five new reprints of classic Magic cards with a Child's Play twist to each. But are these cards worth the effort to purchase? Let's take a look!

The Cards Of Secret Lair x Chucky

Secret Lair x Chucky's five reprinted cards are not too much to write home about; their value isn't nearly as high as some of the other cards we have seen peppered into Secret Lair drops lately.

Notably, this is one of the first horror movie collaborations that Wizards of the Coast has done for Magic: The Gathering.

While they are no stranger to horror in general (having produced cards for Stranger Things and The Walking Dead for example), this is a major step for Wizards. That alone may make this drop more valuable.

With that, here are the five cards in this drop!

The front face for Kardur, Doomscourge, here reskinned as Chucky (new in box!).

The rear face of Kardur, Doomscourge, here reskinned as Chucky, in the murderous form we know and loathe.

The first card is a double-faced copy of Kardur, Doomscourge. This particular option likely bases its reskin value on the concept that Kardur is a red-black creature that deals in a death-by-one-thousand-cuts strategy.

The two-faced nature of this card mostly is because of the nature of an innocuous toy becoming violent suddenly.

Here are the other four cards from Secret Lair x Chucky!

Friends to the End, a reskin of Twinflame. An iconic Child's Play concept.

Child's Play To Get Ahold Of?

It is vital to note that these Secret Lair drops, especially of late, are no longer printed to demand. They have a set quantity premade and they often sell out quickly as a result. However, Wizards of the Coast has assured consumers that the window for drops will not end nearly as quickly as they once did.

Does this mean that Secret Lair x Chucky will not sell out as quickly as, for example, the Monty Python drops? The answer remains to be seen.

Until we know for sure, if you wish to get ahold of this Secret Lair drop, continue to prepare your time, money, and effort for the release date of September 30th at 9am Pacific Time. The drop is $29.99 for nonfoil versions and $39.99 in foil.
