Warleader's Call | Art by Aldo Dominguez

Boros is one of Magic: The Gathering's two-color guilds aligning with . Red and white are known for low-curve spells, aggressive creatures, and combat tricks. Boros takes the best traits of red and white and puts them into overdrive. Boros Charm and Lightning Helix showcase the result of combining red and white's strengths.

Boros often wins when it assumes the aggressor position early in a game and doesn't back off. Several mechanics, such as mentor and Battalion, assist Boros in applying continuous pressure against opponents.

In Commander, Boros utilizes strategies like Sunforger, Equipment, and tokens to defeat opponents. Feather, the Redeemed, Wyleth, Soul of Steel, and Otharri, Suns' Glory are a few notable Boros commanders tasked to execute said strategies.

Wizards of the Coast continues to expand upon Boros' card offerings with new set releases and supplemental products. Additionally, 2024 was no exception in introducing a plethora of newly designed cards. Let's discuss some of the best Boros cards for Commander released in 2024.

Aurelia, the Law Above

Murders at Karlov Manor's (MKM) Aurelia, the Law Above is a five-mana 4/4 Angel with flying, vigilance, and haste. Also, Aurelia, the Law Above has two abilities that trigger whenever a player attacks with at least a certain number of creatures. Attacking with a minimum of three creatures draws you a card.

Increasing the number of attacking creatures to five or more causes Aurelia, the Law Above to deal three damage to each of your opponents and gain you three life. Aurelia, the Law Above scales well in Commander since any player can trigger its attack abilities.

Players may find that Aurelia, the Law Above performs best in the 99 of a Commander deck. Aurelia, the Law Above's abilities synergize with several Boros commander options such as Nelly Borca, Impulsive Accuser, General Ferrous Rokiric, and Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon. Nelly Borca, Impulsive Accuser encourages players to attack by goading suspected creatures and gifting an extra card when an opponent deals combat damage to another opponent.

Casting Aurelia, the Law Above with General Ferrous Rokiric on your battlefield will earn you a 4/4 red and white Golem artifact creature token. Moreover, attacking with an army of Golem artifact creature tokens may trigger Aurelia, the Law Above's abilities.

Lastly, attacking with Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon and a swarm of colorless Gnome artifact creature tokens helps trigger Aurelia, the Law Above' abilities.

Warleader's Call

Warleader's Call from MKM has risen in rank as one of the most played Boros cards on EDHREC. With over 49,000 deck inclusions, Warleader's Call is a potent enchantment for . Warleader's Call grants your creatures +1/+1, and whenever a creature you control enters the battlefield, Warleader's Call deals one damage to each opponent.

Similar to Aurelia, the Law Above, Warleader's Call synergies well with tokens-themed strategies interested in attacking opponents. Otharri, Suns' Glory and Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon can use Warleader's Call to ping opponents' life totals and increase the size of their Rebel and Gnome creature tokens.

Warleader's Call's usefulness expands to other color combinations like . Players can take advantage of Warleader's Call in the 99 of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Caesar, Legion's Emperor.

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad is an interesting legendary Human Assassin from Universes Beyond: Assassin's Creed (ACR). Whenever you attack with Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, the following ability triggers: "Exile up to one target Assassin creature card from your graveyard with a memory counter on it. Then, for each creature card you own in exile with a memory counter on it, create a tapped and attacking token that's a copy of it. Exile those tokens at end of combat."

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's ability can improve with each combat phase since you create a token copy of each creature card owned in exile with a memory counter on it. Warleader's Call will deal one damage to each opponent for each creature token produced by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and provide any of your creature tokens with a +1/+1 boost.

Caesar, Legion's Emperor's mode to create two 1/1 red and white Soldier creature tokens can generate a sizable sum of damage with Warleader's Call. Secure the Wastes, Assemble the Legion, Myrel, Shield of Argive, and other creature token-producing cards can also amplify Warleader's Call's damage output. Your opponents should be fearful whenever they witness you casting Warleader's Call.

Nahiri, Forged in Fury

Nahiri, Forged in Fury is a six-mana legendary creature from March of the Machine: The Aftermath (MAT). Interestingly, Nahiri, Forged in Fury has an affinity for Equipment, which means you pay one less mana to cast the card for each Equipment under your control. Only a handful of other cards, such as Goldwardens' Gambit, Rebel Salvo, and Oxidda Finisher, possess the affinity for Equipment ability.

Nahiri, Forged in Fury's other ability is triggered whenever an equipped creature you control attacks. When this occurs, you get to exile the top card of your library and may play that card this turn. Additionally, Equipment spells exiled with Nahiri, Forged in Fury's ability may be cast without paying their mana costs. Nahiri, Forged in Fury's abilities make it a fine choice to lead or slot into the 99 of an Equipment-focused Commander deck.

When leading a Commander deck, Nahiri, Forged in Fury wants to be surrounded by Equipment cards like Nettlecyst, Bladehold War-Whip, and Bloodforged Battle-Axe. Nahiri, Forged in Fury also requires assistance from Jor Kadeen, First Goldwarden, Kellan, the Fae-Blooded, and other creatures. Don't forget to add a few instants and sorceries in the 99 to clear the battlefield of blockers.

Inventory Management

Inventory Management is the only card with split second in MTG. Playing Inventory Management enables you to attach each Aura and Equipment under your control to a creature you control. Two mana is a bargain price for Inventory Management's effect and speed. Many Aura and Equipment synergizing commanders can maximize Inventory Management's potential.

Inventory Management is an excellent fit with its fellow Universes Beyond: Fallout (PIP) cards Dogmeat, Ever Loyal and Preston Garvey, Minuteman. Another PIP card, Three Dog, Galaxy News DJ, can use Inventory Management to fuel its ability and rearrange any Aura tokens under your control.

The recent Universes Beyond addition, Captain America, First Avenger, will probably want a copy of Inventory Management. Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale's attack ability draws you a card at the cost of one life triggers each time an equipped creature you control attacks. Inventory Management can attach an Equipment card to each creature you control to draw several cards during a combat step with Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale on your battlefield.

Kassandra, Eagle Bearer

ACR's Kassandra, Eagle Bearer is a legendary 2/2 creature haste with two pragmatic abilities for . When Kassandra, Eagle Bearer enters the battlefield, you get to search your library for a card named The Spear of Leonidas and put it onto the battlefield. Additionally, you get to draw a card whenever a creature you control with a legendary Equipment attached to it deals combat damage to a player.

Fortunately, The Spear of Leonidas is a legendary Equipment that can trigger Kassandra, Eagle Bearer's second ability. Attacking with a creature equipped by The Spear of Leonidas allows you to grant that creature double strike, create a 3/2 legendary red Horse creature token named Phobos, or discard two cards and then draw two cards.

Kassandra, Eagle Bearer may not be an ideal Boros commander, but this Human Assassin Warrior can work wonders in other decks. A 2/2 creature with haste and a legendary Equipment card slots well in the 99 of Nahiri, Forged in Fury, Eivor, Battle-Ready, and Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh // Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful. Kassandra, Eagle Bearer's Assassin typing also makes it a viable addition to Assassin kindred decks led by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

Bureau Headmaster

Another playable Boros creature card from ACR is Bureau Headmaster. For , Bureau Headmaster reduces casting Equipment spells by less and activating Equip abilities by less.

Cost reduction for Equipment cards and abilities is fantastic for supporting commanders like Nahiri, Forged in Fury, Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh // Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful, and Captain America, First Avenger. Any decks interested in adding a copy of Kassandra, Eagle Bearer should also consider its fellow ACR inclusion, Kassandra, Eagle Bearer.

Arabella, Abandoned Doll

A surprising uncommon from Duskmourn: House of Horror (DSK) is Arabella, Abandoned Doll. Spending rewards you with a 1/3 legendary Toy artifact creature with an impressive ability. Whenever you attack with Arabella, Abandoned Doll, it deals X damage to each opponent and gains you X life, where X is the number of creatures you control with power two or less.

Arabella, Abandoned Doll's ability compliments Aggro and Tokens-themed decks. As a commander, Arabella, Abandoned Doll can get through a combat phase unscathed while having many small-sized creatures under your control. Thankfully, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner, and Reconnaissance can assist with keeping Arabella, Abandoned Doll unharmed when attacking.

To ensure Arabella, Abandoned Doll's ability generates a ton of damage and life gain, players should consider adding creature token-producing cards to the 99. Red cards like Siege-Gang Lieutenant and Siege-Gang Commander can create plenty of 1/1 creature tokens. Slotting fellow DSK legendary creature, The Jolly Balloon Man, in the 99 enables you to make additional copies of Siege-Gang Lieutenant, Siege-Gang Commander and other creatures.

The Jolly Balloon Man's ability to create a token copy of a creature you control will trigger enters-the-battlefield abilities of the aforementioned red cards and other cards like Hare Apparent and Regal Caracal
